Professionalisation in Humanitarianism: Debates and Opportunities (webinar)

25 August , 16 h 00 min - 17 h 00 min AEST

Deakin University’s Development-Humanitarian Research Group (DHRG) and the Centre for Humanitarian Leadership are pleased to present Professionalisation in Humanitarianism: Debates and Opportunities as part of the DHRG Development and Humanitarian Dialogues seminar series.

What does it mean to be a humanitarian worker? For several decades, the humanitarian sector has pursued increased professionalisation through standards and guidelines, competency frameworks, and training and education. This seminar will explore the implications of university-level humanitarian training for a shifting sector and its contribution to the humanitarian endeavour.

This is an opportunity to engage with new research, connect with academics working in the humanitarian and development space, and reflect on how we should be preparing the next generation of humanitarian workers. There will be ample time for audience questions and discussion.

Speakers and discussants:

Adriana Stibral PhD candidate and casual academic, Deakin University

Nazanin Zadeh-Cummings Associate Director of Research, Centre for Humanitarian Leadership, Deakin University

Matthew Clarke Pro Vice-Chancellor, Researcher Development, Deakin University

Mark Tell Training Manager, RedR Australia

Eranda Wijewickrama Leader, Humanitarian Advisory Group
